I’ve taught critical thinking and technical writing, so I understand it can be confusing to make sense of large amounts of information. I know history and government can be especially challenging because there are so many voices speaking all at once, or so many different interpretations of a single event.

In several jobs, I focused on creating documents for a wide range of readers—from unskilled beginners to senior officials with complex responsibilities. I’ve also conducted classes in how to organize source material and write a product that makes the message clear. As a graduate student, I worked as a credited copy editor for a book now in the catalog of a major publisher.

If you’ve struggled with history and related subjects, it’s probably because you’ve been conditioned to memorize lots of names and dates. History is so much more than that, and it’s more interesting when you have some tools to help you get your arms around it. Writing is a set of skills that helps with history and every other subject, and I can help there also.

I have master’s degrees in both political science and national security studies, and I belong to Pi Gamma Mu, the international honor society in social science.
