"Hello!
My name is Julius, and I am a 25-year-old journalist currently living in Los Angeles. To give some background, I have written a combines 400 stories (and counting) across digital and print media for both Los Angeles Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. On the side, I have always had a passion for teaching and previously worked as a tutor for roughly three years at Holmes Middle School in Alexandria, VA. I was hand-picked by individuals who ran the program there to return (I went to MS there) and tutored on a variety of subjects, including math, history, and writing/English. Of course, I ended up settling into the latter a bit more comfortably than the others. I went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and earned a degree in Digital Marketing as I wanted to work in fashion journalism (I ended up finishing with a 3.9 GPA). Given that most journalism is now digital, the degree helped me to understand how to best reach audiences with my work.
Whether it be expository essays, narrative-driven stories, or basic writing structure, I am thoroughly knowledgeable across all and ready to help students understand them! I get along well with others and consider myself to be patient when it comes to tutoring. During my time at HMS, I came across a variety of personalities and was able to adapt to each.
I love working one-on-one as I can dive into writing structure and the beauty of a great composition. My methods are very straightforward in this way, as I like to provide examples of other relevant writing pieces and walk students through them. Then, we can practice it ourselves with a relevant topic or perhaps take a shot at an assignment they are working on. Foundation first, and then we can get a bit creative with how we describe certain topics in the writing!" less...
