"My name is Megan and I am a proud alumnus of North Carolina State University, majoring in Animal Science and minoring in Psychology. I was a member of the Honors program, a member of the Society of Research and Inquiry, the Sustainability Committee, and the Society of Public Scholarship. I received a grant to run my own program named "Tea Time," which focused on scholarly applications outside of the classroom. I have been working since the age of thirteen and I have been tutoring for the past nine years, beginning with part-time hours during high school and college and progressing to tutoring full-time for the past four years. My teaching style is hands-on, utilizing me as a demonstrator or model, and allowing the student to apply that knowledge on their own. I appreciate questions from the student, curiosity, and student participation. I utilize real world examples to exhibit the significance of the topic and encourage interest and passion in the acquisition of knowledge.
My first tutoring experience came from the Learnworks program that focused on helping elementary school students that were referred to the community center for behavioral problems, learning disorders, and trouble with English. I spent over ten hours a week for two years in high school tutoring and leading the Cooking and Drama clubs. I worked with the same third and fourth grade students each day, and helped bring their grades up. In college, I have privately tutored college students in English, Biology, Finite Maths, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Chemistry, and Psychology courses. I create the majority of my curriculum, incorporating diverse resources that cater to auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners. I build profiles on my students so that I can record their progress, strengths and weakness, and the most effective study and learning strategies for them. I differentiate studying strategies for process-based and memorization-based courses and integrate the teaching of study skills into every course to increase the retention of the mat" less...
