"I started my teaching career in 2000. For almost two years, I worked in the third and first grade levels. I then changed to the middle school environment as a special education teacher. I did some direct-teach classes for learning disabled students in the areas of English and Math. I've worked at helping students with other subjects under different duties as an SE teacher. I also had a two-year period of teaching sixth-grade science.
I enjoy working in small group or one-to-one settings because I'm able to focus my attention to the individual student(s) without the distraction of a large class of students. Students are also comfortable with me and my teaching style as I try to bring out what it is that they need to understand about that lesson. I ask questions and review with the student the lesson at hand to help that student's understanding so that he or she can be successful in their learning.
I have an Elementary 1-6 teaching certificate and a Generic Special Education 1-12 Certificate. I'm good at all levels of general math taught in elementary and middle school.
I have not gone through an official phonics training, but I have been in classes over my own educational experiences that have given me a basic understanding of how phonics works. I do know the sounds of the letters. When I taught first grade, the school used an SRA textbook that focused on phonics as the basis for reading instruction.
I hope I've given you a basis of who I am and my qualifications for being able to teach and tutor you in these levels of the educational spectrum. I look forward to being able to help you in whatever subject areas that you might need help in so that you can achieve success in your learning." less...
