"Welcome to my Wyzant profile! With over 20 years of experience in teaching and tutoring, I am passionate about elementary math and reading. Most importantly, I am dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies, along with Teacher Certification in grades NK-6. My tutoring experience spans throughout my teaching career, during which I have successfully helped elementary students find success with standardized tests as well as building necessary foundational skills in reading and math to find academic success. My successes include, New Teacher of the Year for my county of more than 2,000 teachers. I’ve also received recognition in my building as Teacher of the Year and served as a lead/mentor teacher for more than 15 years, where I’ve led my team and created an aggressive remediation/tutoring program that has helped students find personal success. Whether it’s homework help, exam preparation, or concept reinforcement, I am here to support students every step of the way.

My approach to tutoring emphasizes personalized learning plans tailored to each student’s needs. I believe in fostering a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore concepts at their own pace. My approach in math includes a hands-on approach with virtual manipulatives, games and activities, real world applications, step by step approach, and practice and repetition. In reading, I’m LETRS certified, with a blended focus of phonics, guided reading, read alouds, comprehension practice, vocabulary development, and fluency practice. The ultimate goal is building confidence and reinforcing fundamental concepts.
