"Hi! My name is Ginger, but I go by Lexi! I am currently an Elementary Education Major with a concentration in behavioral studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I will be graduating in December of 2020. I have always had a love for children and learning. I originally started my college career thinking that I was going to be a nurse. It wasn't until I talked with family and friends that I realized my passion for teaching.

Being an Elementary Education Major at UNCW has allowed me to work with some great professors as well as partnership teachers at local Elementary Schools. I have tutored a fifth-grade student through the UNCW Education Lab, I have homeschooled my youngest brother during summers, and I have done field experience at elementary schools, and even taught 3 full lessons to first graders.

My teaching philosophy is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. My teaching style involves a mixture of different aspects. I believe that in order to facilitate productive student learning, the teacher’s role is to act as a guide for their students’. I think that students need to have hands-on activities and be able to use technology on a daily basis. I also believe that students need to be in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable to share their ideas. Some of my strengths in teaching include being on time, being prepared, and having all materials ready for my lessons, being confident in myself, and having the ability to make learning fun. I also think that a strength of mine is the ability to form relationships with students so that they trust that I always have their best interests in mind.
