"Where to start? My passion has always been in education. Currently , I am a special education teacher in a public school where I provide reading interventions and specially designed instruction to 5th graders both in and out of the general education classroom.
In 2009, I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors in Sociology, Two years later, I had master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois of Chicago. In 2020, I finished my master's in Special Education.
Since becoming a teacher 14 years ago, I have taught all over the country with all different students in grades 1 - 8. I have spent most of my time teaching 4th and 5th grade in both general education and special education. There is a common theme students need to have an understanding in foundational skills in reading and math.
As an educator, I firmly believe in a systematic approach to teaching reading based in the Science of Reading. I have certifications in LETRS, Wilson Reading System, and the S.P.I.R.E reading intervention. Math instruction should include problem solving as well as knowing basic math facts.
I tutor in all elementary subjects as well as American History. I provide individual as well as small group tutoring ( max 5 students). Tutoring can be as informal as homework help to providing a systematic reading intervention like Wilson or SPIRE. As a tutor, I design instruction to meet the goals of tutoring. At our first session, my goal is to find out where your student is academically, and how I can best support their academic goals. This may include a few games and informal assessments. After that session, a plan will be created to show how the goal will be reached." less...
