"When I tell people that I am going to be a history teacher I often get a response the likes of: “Oh, I hated history” or “History is sooooo boring”. When I hear this I usually respond with: “That’s because you didn’t have the right teacher”. I believe that history should be told like a story. Having exact dates isn’t as important as knowing what happened, why it happened, and how it effected the world. If students are able to focus more on why they are learning what they are learning then they will be more motivated to learn it, whether it is history, math, or science. I believe in giving kids purpose behind their learning to make it meaningful and worth their time. I was always the kind of student who went against the grain and questioned the reason for what I had to learn in school. Fortunately there WERE some teachers who could get through to me.
