In high school, I struggled as a student. For this reason, I wanted to become a teacher! While in college, I was introduced to professors who used engaging methods of teaching and adapted their teaching to my individual learning styles just as any teacher should do! It is for this reason, that I use many different teaching methods in my classroom. I try to bring these methods to my tutoring approach as well. I strive to make the learning as fun and engaging as possible, but also to make sure it is meaningful and something students are likely to retain. I try to introduce topics using engaging hands on activities to introduce new content and then make sure there is a "I Do, We Do, You Do" model to my lessons. This means that I introduce and teach the student the content, then we practice the skill together, and then I release responsibility to the student and assess what they can do on their own.
I have 4 years of tutoring experience in all grades K-5. The area I specialize most in tutoring would be Common Core Math Methods or Elementary Math K-5. I have also tutored explicitly in test taking strategies for upper elementary students.
I have been trained in Common Core Math (K-5) and feel that the methods I use to teach are whole brain teaching methods. I have attended many workshops for math content, and have been on multiple committees for math within our county.
