"I am an excited teacher who loves to support students who need additional time and support to develop the confidence needed to excel educationally. As an elementary student, I loved learning but had difficulty connecting with my teachers and content. Therefore, I am very sensitive to helping my students make the necessary connections to grow and become critical thinkers. I have had the pleasure of doing this for 16 years now.
My educational experience has allowed me to follow my passion, which is working with children. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree in criminal justice, which allowed me to work with students through juvenile court for 14 years. I also have an M.Ed. degree that has allowed me to transition to teaching in the classroom. I have generally been working with students aged 8 through 18 in both urban and suburban settings for the last 16 years.
My approach to teaching and tutoring is to introduce new topics in a fun and engaging way to help students connect with the content. I then provide memorable activities that guide students in digesting the material in small bites. Finally, I offer students the opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of the content in a way that makes the most sense to them and allows them to use their own creativity. This type of engagement helps students own their learning and builds confidence." less...
