"Hello, I’m Nicholas! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. When I was in University, I fell in love with the concepts that were explained in lectures and eventually applied them in lab. However, as a chemist, I never really enjoyed labs and, instead, was infatuated with the learning aspect of lectures and how the concepts were explained. As a lifelong learner, I ask a lot of questions. In fact, that tends to be my teaching/tutoring style.

With my experience as a student mentor, math/chemistry tutor, and chemistry learning assistant, I have honed this skill of prompting the students I’m helping. Focusing on how they learn and finding multiple frameworks to explain a concept, I engage the student in an active learning process such that they can better assess their understanding and form questions of their own. Learning is all about questioning and about the pursuit of finding ways to get to an answer. With 3-4 years under my belt of working closely with students anywhere from the high school to the college level, I’ve been able to learn and practice skills that are student focused, like: working with the student’s needs; trying to gauge where a student is at; working with a student as a team; providing patience and compassion when a student is struggling in their learning process; and practicing what I preach by communicating if I don’t know something and then taking action to figure it out.

As an AP Chemistry Teacher at an educational center, I teach 1-3, K-12 students at a time in chemistry, prealgebra, algebra 1 & 2, geometry, and/or lower math; I also assist on Digital-SAT and ACT Math. I’m passionate about helping students. I want students to not only do well in their classes but also do well in adapting and honing their learning process such that they become more confident in their abilities to absorb information and grasp concepts.
