"Hi! My name is Emma, and I'm an honors undergraduate student studying Software Engineering! I scored a perfect 36 on the ACT and a 1510 on the PSAT, and I'm a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. I scored 5's on the AP Calculus BC, Language and Composition, US History, Microeconomics, and Spanish exams.
I have tutored privately for one year, primarily providing ACT test prep and homework support in high school math and science. I have tutored Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and ACT Math, and I can support students in Chemistry and Physics as well. I also am fluent in Spanish, and I enjoy helping people gain confidence in the language!
I usually tutor one-on-one because I can cater to each student's individual learning style. I focus on developing problem-solving skills in students so they can have long-term success. I am passionate about helping students truly understand the material they are studying so that they can apply it on their own. I love the subjects I tutor, and I want to help my students discover the fun in learning as well!
I understand that people learn in different ways, and I will adapt my approach to match how you learn best. I use virtual whiteboards to present lots of visual examples to make the concepts I'm explaining as clear and concrete as possible. I prefer active learning methods over passive instruction, so I'll ask lots of engaging questions to help you explore the material yourself. We'll work through practice problems together so we can perfect your problem-solving strategy. I want you to not just understand what you must do to solve a certain problem, but also why you need to do it.
I'll also help you develop memorization techniques, such as mnemonics, to retain the information we cover. No matter what level you are at now, I believe you can succeed, and I promise to give you lots of encouragement along the way. You'll leave our session feeling both more confident in the subject and empowered to learn more on your own!" less...
