"Over the last two years I have been teaching mathematics at the highschool level. I entered the field as a Long Term Substitute, and due to my outstanding performance was subsequently hired as a full time teacher. Each day I taught three classes of Algebra I College Prep and two classes of Algebra II Honors. I have been introduced to a wide variety of learners and often tailor my lessons to meet the skills and abilities of the classroom. I have had students who moved up to the Honors level find great success in my class, while others who are weaker in the subject recommended me to their friends for personalized tutoring. Teachers have commended me for my detailed lessons, quick learning, and personal connection to the students, which is evident as you step inside the positive and inclusive environment of my classroom.
My passion for mathematics started in high school and I have always had a desire to serve the community. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering which required mastery of several advanced math courses. Friends often looked to me for help with these challenging classes and I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with peers. After graduation, I worked as a Systems Engineer for four years. I managed the acquisition of military systems, where I coordinated with cross-functional teams to produce in depth engineering analyses and program reports. I also led a Study Buddy tutoring program, connecting children of military families with suitable instructors. I personally tutored a highschool student failing Algebra II for three months and boosted his grades to help him pass the course.
While tutoring I usually start with homework questions to gauge understanding of the material and then review class notes to reinforce concepts. I stay away from complex terminology, keeping it simple so that anyone, no matter the background, can easily grasp the material. I am patient and encouraging during instruction, and I promise to do my best in giving you the help that you need to shine." less...
