"Hello! My name is Drew B. and I am a renewable energy engineer by career with a passion for teaching. I come from a long line of teachers - both my parents and grandparents were teachers, and their passion has been passed down to me. I have my Bachelor of Science in Engineering, and in getting it, I served as a Calculus 2 and 3 teacher for 2 years and a Teacher's Aide for 1 year. As a calculus tutor, I worked with a large volume of students seeking one-on-one help with Calculus 2 and 3 and supported them by ensuring their homework was done correctly, they were prepared for upcoming tests, and they had a deeper understanding of the material. I was a straight A math student through all my schooling and would love to pass those skills on to the next generation. As a Teacher's Aide, I facilitated group study sessions, after-class office-hours, and supported the professor during classes and labs. This role required me to have a strong understanding of engineering principles and be able to impart those onto the class as a secondary source of information, developing my group teaching skills. As an engineer I take every opportunity to mentor and take on interns, which has further developed my skills as a teacher through the ability to teach in a work environment where our goal is to create something. This has created a third angle I am comfortable using to help someone understand a concept, not to mention keeping my skills fresh!
As a tutor/mentor, I strive to be patient and encouraging - allowing my students to come to answers on their own so that they can internalize and understand the content more thoroughly. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, so that when they attempt something new and difficult, they're able to ask questions and seek support knowing I won't carry any judgement or frustration in my response. All prior roles I have taken as a tutor/mentor have created a strong network of skills I can pull from to help you come to a place of homework preparedness and test readiness." less...
