"I worked as an English tutor for second-language learners at South Seattle Community College for two years. At this job I helped students with everything from basic grammar worksheets to essays. I helped them craft better thesis statements, organize paragraphs, strengthen their ideas, and improve spelling, grammar, and word choice. I took great pleasure in helping students improve their written English, and always felt like I had a knack for it.
I have a strong background in writing and editing. At the end of 2020, I completed a certificate program in editing from the University of Washington. This thorough program covered copy editing, line editing, and developmental editing, with the subject matter ranging from science to journalism to fiction. The broad scope of this course gave me a solid understanding of the editing field and its various niches.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Western Washington University in 2006. A major part of the classes in this program was group feedback, in which we critiqued pieces written by other students. I got a lot of experience in both giving and receiving constructive feedback, and developed an eye for the elements of good story structure, as well as common narrative problems.
I have very strong writing and grammar skills, and a lot of experience explaining these things to people who don't understand them. I'm good at figuring out what students don't understand and figuring out how to explain it.
I am eager to help you improve your English writing, and I'm excited to hear from you." less...
