"Hi my name is Lyndsey and I have been a tutor for over 7 years now. I was tutoring at the college I was attending before I moved to Michigan. I tutored a wide range of students ranging from new immigrants to adults returning to college. I have helped students with reading comprehension, grammar, academic writing, citations, literary analysis, and creative writing. I saw papers ranging from short personal introductions to philosophical essays. I have had many jobs in my life but I have not enjoyed any of them as much as tutoring. I love seeing the moment that a student understands the content and gains confidence in their abilities. I understand that English can be difficult for people, but I hope that I can help students do their best.
While tutoring at a college, many people came to me in order to learn proper citation so that they could avoid plagiarism. I have a good understanding of MLA, APA, and Chicago Turabian Footnotes. I am also prepared to learn other citation styles as needed.
I am still currently a college student and am working towards a degree in English so that I can move on to become a teacher. While my focus is on English, I also enjoy History, Anthropology, Art, and Philosophy. I am not currently taking any steps towards multiple degrees at this moment, but hope to add these subjects to my repertoire in the future. I understand that many may look at my experience and write me off, but I will still work my hardest for those who are willing to work with me.
I believe in the Socratic method when it comes to tutoring and choose to pose questions to help students have a better grasp on concepts and ideas. I will also help students address common mistakes or issues that they are running into. I believe that in order to truly learn what is considered incorrect, one must learn why it is considered incorrect, and I am always willing to explain and give examples so that students can make progress." less...
