Since then I’ve worked on hundreds of student papers, particularly in English literature, lit theory, psychology, sociology, research methods, cultural studies, education, poetry, and comparative lit.
Stuck or Just Starting:
Many times when a client is stuck on a writing assignment, I find that they need only to stop writing and start talking to get their ideas flowing again. One of my favorite parts of being a tutor is taking dictation. It’s always satisfying for me to turn a dead end around by simply asking a few questions and typing my student’s answers as they’re speaking. More often than not, a few minutes of conversation produces an outline or rough draft that disperses all feelings of hopelessness with minimal effort.
For general editing and organization, I like to use google docs or a similar program with students so we can both view and edit the piece at the same time. I’m comfortable citing in both MLA and APA format and I have experience assisting with database research and literature reviews, as well as designing & organizing psychological research. I particularly enjoy literary analysis and I’m happy to assist students with works of any length whether it be for an introductory class or graduate work, from renaissance studies to contemporary literature.
