"As an English Ph.D. student at Pennsylvania State University, I study literature and visual culture. I aim to cultivate eloquent and articulate writing through my teaching and research. In hope of furthering these goals, I tutor middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in English, History, Art History, and Writing. I also work as an instructor for college-level English and Rhetoric courses.
I encourage students to become more confident in their abilities. In our initial meetings, many of my students self-describe as "bad writers" or believe that English and/or History are "not for them." Through tutoring, I aim to cultivate their interest in Humanities subjects as well as their competency and fluency in advanced reading and writing. Helping students overcome their self-defeating attitudes towards these subjects and seeing their excitement over their own competencies is the most rewarding part of this occupation.
I hold BA degrees in English and History from UC Davis, an MA degree in English Literature from Penn State, and I am in the process of earning a Ph.D. in English and Visual Studies from Penn State. Because of my experience navigating higher education, I able to help students navigate undergraduate and graduate applications and transitioning to new phases of collegiate life. I have worked as a tutor for nearly ten years, and I love helping students reach their academic goals.
Please contact me if you are interested in scheduling a tutoring session. I will then send you a few questions to answer before our first meeting. This allows me to get a sense of your goals, hopes, and expectations for our time together." less...
