"Hi! My name is Pablo, but my friends call me PG and you can call me that too, since we’re friends now! I graduated from the Florida State University (Go Noles!) with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Psychology. Words are my great passion, and I spend most of my waking hours working with or thinking about the English language. When I am not tutoring, I work writing sales copy, which is a fancy term for the words in an ad, or pursuing my creative interests - writing plays, screenplays, and sketches with my comedy group! Rest assured that, when it comes to reading and writing, you’re in dedicated hands - I don’t do much else!
I have been sporadically tutoring students in English since college (I won’t tell you how long ago that was because it makes me feel old), helping them achieve an understanding of the language that allows them not only to achieve their academic goals, but to gain the confidence to use language efficiently and elegantly as a form of self-expression. After all, isn’t that what words are for?
My areas of expertise include English grammar, syntax, and composition which makes me an ideal choice for anyone struggling with their school writing assignments, or looking for help in their SAT Reading and Writing test prep. Because I’m a big ol’ geek, I’m also versed in Literature and Theatre, and am more than happy to walk my students through concepts such as themes, symbols, motifs, and other goodies us silly writers like to pack into our work.
My teaching style relies on turning passages and compositions from daunting and complex to fun and accessible by way of play. I like to think of language as a game, or a puzzle - each word is a puzzle piece, and when we write, we’re putting those pieces together to create a picture. By teaching English this way, I give students the freedom they need to experiment and play with their words. Sounds more fun than worrying about grammar rules, right?
I also speak Spanish and have experience teaching English as a second language.
