"Originally from New York City, I have spent the last 35 years in France. With many years of experience teaching English as a second language and tutoring native English speakers, I draw from a background in literature, music and dance to develop general communication, listening, reading and writing skills. I love working with students from a large range of contexts, cultures and age groups. Whether with young people or adults, I am sensitive to the needs of each student.
I have more than 15 years of experience working in the French public schools as an ESL teacher, and 10 years with a major language school in the Paris region. I also have private students, some of whom began with me in elementary school and are now at University. I have recently moved back to the US and am currently living near San Francisco.
With a BA from Swarthmore College, I have a strong background in literature and history. I have several years of experience tutoring young people for ACT reading and writing, as well as college counseling. I have a CELTA certification and have prepared students for TOEFL, IELTS and AP English exams. Whether with young people or adults, I am sensitive to the needs of each student. Reading, writing and discussion are the basis for my lessons.
- My classes are both stimulating and fun.
- I create a climate of enthusiasm and trust that allows students to express themselves.
- My younger students have gone on to top colleges and universities.
- My adult students work with large companies, write reports and frequently give presentations.
- I encourage my students to find their own voices for communication, as well as clarity and meaning for their learning goals." less...
