"Hi, I'm a graduate student in Software Engineering at Kennesaw State University. I have worked as a graduate research assistant for the Computer Science department. During my first year in college, I was hired as a teaching assistant and study session instructor for the Mathematics department–that is, until I fell in love with organic chemistry. Since then, I've worked as a teaching assistant and tutor for the Chemistry department. I love when the concepts finally click for students–it's a lightbulb moment for them, and it is very encouraging to me as an instructor and tutor.
My undergraduate degree is in English. With my degree, I have worked as a ghostwriter and editor for authors, colleagues, and students. During my graduate research assistant position, I wrote and edited literary reviews in biotechnology. From all of these jobs, I've learned that my favorite is helping students understand the learning material, so they can improve their skills and knowledge for the future. I accomplish this by using interactive tools, such as games, mnemonic devices, and metaphors, to embed the information to memory. I try to relate the new learning material to a person's interests, hobbies, and pre-existing knowledge, so they can grow their memory palace.
I struggled with pre-algebra in middle school, and I found this incredible tutor who explained algebra to me in a way that no other tutor was able to do. Since then, I made straight A's in high school and college mathematics. In college, I was hired by the mathematics department as a teaching assistant. In that position, I held study sessions for Algebra 1-3, and the students had great questions that we were able to solve together.
Spreadsheets via Microsoft Excel is an area that I am constantly utilizing for school and work. It is very user-friendly, however, many people struggle with understanding how to create and use spreadsheets. I enjoy explaining this platform, particularly to seniors at a living center where I worked for a year.
