"Half of the time I teach at Kean and Monmouth University, and the other half I instruct college-preparatory students. Teaching students on the brink of college and those already in college gives me a unique perspective: I'm able to guide the younger students on what colleges and professors look for, particularly in my field of expertise. Having this panoramic view makes me a stronger teacher as I can be more than an instructor and teacher. I am an academic coach, a guidance counselor, a friend, and confidant. And this dynamic relationship is what I love about teaching!
My college classes range from freshman to seniors, are diverse and multicultural, and vary in age, which makes for interesting and dynamic group discussions. As an English Literature professor, my classes are discussion based and conducted in the Socratic method. I believe in a student’s ability to tap into their own potential and in allowing them to take ownership of their work.
In addition to college courses, I also teach ACT English and Reading; SAT Reading, and SAT Writing and Language; AP Literature and Composition, college essay writing; essay writing; study skills and organization; and homework assistance.
Since I received my BA and Master's degree in Literature and Creative Writing, I specialize in Creative Writing, specifically memoir and Creative Nonfiction. I am a longstanding member of Sigma Tau Delta and have one of my poems published in their Journal of Creative Writing. I also was a former copy editor and freelance writer for local magazines, and continue to work on my creative writing in a writing group.
As for tutoring, I'm all about open communication; therefore love feedback on what works and what doesn't! My primary job is to help you be successful, and I take that job seriously. I provide a contact and will respond within 1-2 hours (unless I'm not available). Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or to schedule an appointment." less...
