"Parents and Students,

Allow me to introduce myself and describe my qualifications as an English Language Arts tutor.

I am a full-time English Language Arts teacher for Grades 7-8 in New Haven. I am certified by Connecticut to teach Language Arts in Grades 7-12. I am a graduate candidate for an M.S. in English at SCSU. Additionally, my formal education includes holding a

B.A. in English from UCLA, with which I earned UCLA's highest honors, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

I have taken 35 courses in Literature and writing/rhetoric during my undergraduate and graduate training. I earned A's in all but one (in which I earned a B) of those 35 courses.

I work very well with students who wish to improve their writing and reading skills, whether it be for their courses in Grades 7-12 or for preparation for the new SBAC or the SAT.

My career before I entered graduate school to become a Secondary Education teacher was also working with writers. I was in development as a story editor in a number of different major motion picture studios in Los Angeles.

On a personal note: I am the mother of two teens and I care for our pet Boston Terrier. We just finished the rigorous college application process for one of my teens, who is a senior, which resulted in his beginning his studies this fall in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern Californa. My family enjoys spending time together in activities including going to concerts, theater, sailing and hiking. My personal interests include training for and competing in triathlons. I completed my first triathlon last September, and I am hooked!

At the core of this introduction is the fact that I am passionate about teaching and working with students in Grades 6 and above in Language Arts because I love the language arts and truly enjoy the students. Effective tutoring is second nature given these traits.
