"I have a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's in Creative Writing. While earning my Master's, I taught a Composition and Rhetoric course to make sure incoming students were prepared to write at the college level: original theses, sharp topic sentences, and organized body paragraphs with emphasis on peer-reviewed sources and audience expectations. Outside of teaching, I volunteered as an editor and reader for the literary magazine, the Colorado Review, and as a workshop leader at the local homeless shelter and the creative writing courses offered at the college.

Before teaching at the college level, I was a substitute teacher with Springfield City Schools, working with all grades in all subjects, including serving as a long-term substitute for 5th-grade English. I have also worked as a Youth Development Specialist with the Boy & Girls Club for summer education programs, designing creative approaches to school subjects so that it still felt like summer vacation, even while they were cultivating the skills they would need for the upcoming school year.

I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds! My biggest strength is my passion for the subject and my ability to share that passion with anyone I meet. Creating a habit of reading and writing can aid your kiddo in more than just school; it is a tool for self-growth and discovery that helps them become more enriched by everyday interactions. I like to meet your child where they're at and find out what about the subject that feels inaccessible to them. They're already capable of what it takes, most often it's just disinterest or misunderstanding.
