"I am a senior at Kent State Tuscarawas, and will be graduating May 2016 with a BA in English, the Writing minor, as well as a Communications Studies minor. I am going into my third academic year as an English and Writing tutor in The Writing Center on our campus. Some of the things that we cover as tutors in TWC include proper formatting and style of research papers and essays, in-text and bibliography citations, research skills, strategies, and information, thesis statement formulation, structure, and organization, as well as the basic principles of grammar, syntax, and punctuation.

I have an extensive vocabulary, am able to use it to help students better understand their assignments, as well as diversify their language use through introducing them to words they previously did not know. As stated, I have a passion for writing, and am always will to help others who struggle in that area. I would not classify my self as the consummate grammarian, but I will say that I have firm grasp English grammar, and am able to explain it in layman's terms to that are easily understandable by all. I would consider myself an excellent proofreader as well, having been the General Editor of the campus literary magazine for two years.

As a tutor, I love to be there for students who struggle with English. We all have our strong suits and weaknesses, and there's no shame admitting when you need help with something. That's what tutors are there for. There's nothing quite like the feeling, from both ends, of that moment when you see your student "get it," when it clicks in their head, and that smile of learning something new and wonderful spreads across their face.
