"Hi, my name is Alayna. I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor's of Arts in French language and classical civilizations. I got my start teaching in a classroom with a student organization where I taught introductory French to sixth graders for two years. Working in the classroom taught me the importance of listening to my students and tailoring my teaching methods to fit their needs. I also learned how to teach effectively in a short time frame. I love bringing my students' personal interests into classroom discussions to keep the material relevant.
I love teaching because it gives me an opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for language and history with others. I know my favorite teachers were the ones who came to class excited to get to work. I try to bring that same drive and enthusiasm into each of my lessons.
I have a B.A. in classical civilizations. Through my degree, I have studied Greek and Roman archaeology extensively. I have also studied field methods as an intern with the American School of Classical Studies in Athens at the Corinth Archaeological Museum and as a lab volunteer with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. I have also taken a course on New World Archaeology and several courses in Anthropology.
I completed my coursework for a TEFL certificate at Ohio University. Through this training I took five courses in linguistic methodology and language learning. I also spent a semester prepping an ESL student for his TOEFL exam.
I have a B.A. in French and received an Advanced Low score on the OPI (Oral Proficiency Exam) from the Association of Modern Languages. I have studied French for eight years. Working in the classroom as a volunteer teacher has taught me how to creatively present new vocabulary, strengthen my student's oral proficiency, and communicate complex grammar points.
