"I am passionate lifelong learner with both strong STEM and interpersonal skills. I have BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and have excelled in a myriad of mathematics classes throughout college and high school, which included earning a 100% on the New York State Honors Algebra Regents final exam. I have taught Computer Science classes at the university level, and have more than 36 years of professional experience as a software engineer and a software engineering manager in high tech.
I am currently a substitute teacher and teacher aide at the elementary school level, where I instruct and tutor students with a wide range of temperaments and abilities. In one school, I was awarded a “teacher of the week” award by the principal after substituting in the same classroom for multiple successive days, an award rarely, if ever, given to a substitute teacher.
In my career, I have come to realize how critically important strong interpersonal skills are in achieving success! As such, I have honed these skills over time, which include patience, empathy, respect, attentiveness, dependability and understanding, and fully appreciate the utmost importance of applying these characteristics while tutoring to ensure success. I understand the importance of closely listening and observing during any instructional process, and then adapting as necessary to meet the particular needs of the student.
As a tutor, my primary goal will be to work towards helping students learn their required subject material as efficiently and effectively as possible, and in a fashion that works well for them, as well as to help them develop into independent learners so that they can reach their goals more readily." less...
