"I am a tutor residing in Dover, DE. I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. It was at this university where I began my journey as a tutor. Starting in 2018, I worked at my school's tutoring office as an on-campus tutor for Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Discrete Mathematics, and Introduction to Proof. In one semester I tutored for roughly 57 hours, and overall I accumulated about 190 hours of tutoring on campus. In 2020, I joined Varsity Tutors and have since then tutored various math subjects for about 800 hours. Nowadays, in addition to tutoring, I work as a high school math teacher in Camden, DE. I teach Pre-Calculus and I assist with after-school tutoring and SAT Math Prep on the weekends whenever possible.
In addition to tutoring, music is another passion of mine. I played clarinet in the University of Delaware Marching Band and I was also a conductor for a student-led ensemble that plays video game music. When I relax, I cannot help but put on my headphones and listen to classical music. I am also into sports such as baseball and basketball.
My philosophy when it comes to tutoring is simple: students learn math by doing math. Whenever I tutor, my intention is to maximize the time the student spends working on engaging math problems to improve their problem-solving ability. I then ask the student to explain their solution attempt whether they solved it correctly or not because by voicing their steps out loud, this reflective practice synthesizes their learning. I offer my own feedback and model how to carry out the solution to similar problems when I feel it is necessary, but overall, I center each session around the student’s thinking.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a session." less...
