"Hello! I’m Cheyenne, and I have a Bachelor’s degree in neurobiology. Since graduation, I’ve been accepted to a MD medical school.
My previous tutoring experience began during my undergrad. For two years, I was a Learning Assistant (LA) for the intro biology courses. I spent most of my time teaching and hosting extra help sessions outside of lab time. My students and I bonded over the struggles of Gen Chem 101, the newest season of Game of Thrones, and their anxieties surrounding assignments.
When students could not make it to writing workshops, I set up meetings with them during my free time. When large assignments were due, I stayed up well into the night answering frantic emails from those who had waited until the last minute to start their assignment. During the pandemic, I checked in on my students' physical and mental health, even creating biology related Jeopardy nights where my students can engage in hard-to-come-by social interaction.
As the bond built on respect and camaraderie strengthened, students came to me for advice, both academic and personal. I knew that this bond could not prosper with words alone; my actions had to support them. I provided for my students what my best teachers provided for me: a classroom led with patience, adaptability, and empathy.
Though my area of study is biology, my passions also include literature and writing. Through literature, I have lived in many worlds. Through writing, other people have lived in mine. I’ve been an avid reader since childhood. I asked for books for Christmas, books for my birthday, and books because the sky was blue and the grass was green. I grew up alongside childhood heroes made of ink. I’ve found a forever home between pen and paper, and I hope to provide this same experience for the students I tutor.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation/lesson. I look forward to meeting you!
