Hello! My name is Queen, and I'm a Math Specialist for middle and high school content.
Education Summary:
I graduated magna cum laude from the City College of New York with a B.A. in Pure Mathematics. Then, I took some graduate courses at NYU (major: cybersecurity) before leaving to pursue teaching in disadvantaged public schools. Eventually, I took more graduate courses at other universities across various disciplines (proofs, probability/statistics, data science).
Teaching Summary:
Since 2014, I have tutored and coached students on various math topics. I began with group tutoring at a community college, then ventured into private coaching as a Math Specialist. As a Math Specialist, I help students of all abilities from fourth grade through college.
Most of my teaching experience has been in high schools. I've taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus at a few high-performing charter schools and a Blue Ribbon magnet school.
In addition, I worked as a teacher and private tutor at a tutoring center for three years while I took a break from teaching in schools. I taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, SAT Math, Precalculus, and Bergen Academy Prep (Math).
Philosophy:
My style of teaching and tutoring is heavily Socratic, which empowers students to do a high ratio of the work necessary to solve problems. It entails asking students questions in a way that enables them to be an active participant in the learning process. I have personally found this method to be *extremely powerful* in getting students to reach higher levels of mastery and higher grades in school!
If you book with me, YOU WILL WORK during our session. That's how I do things both in school and in private coaching. The goal is not to show you that I can do it; it's to show you that YOU can do it. That requires pulling you into the problem-solving process!
