"My name is Leah. I love school. I am a second-year Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student (Psy. D.) at Rutgers University. I completed my M.A. and B.A. in Psychology and Education Studies at Wesleyan University. I was also awarded valedictorian at a local private high school. I have tutored students of all ages for over ten years; my specialty is high school and college students. I teach various subjects including Psychology, Study Skills, Research, Writing (Academic, Creative, and College Applications), College Counseling, and more. I teach one-on-one lessons as the tutor/client connection is paramount. First and foremost, I aim to teach students how to learn beyond just understanding content.
As a doctoral student, I am a clinician/therapist and a researcher. I have mastered psychological concepts and can make them digestible for students of any level. I have worked in multiple psychology labs with experience in all stages of the research process.
I am also passionate about writing. From creative short stories to academic essays, I have written countless papers for many subjects. I coach students through the writing process to teach core writing skills that will carry them beyond their upcoming assignments.
Much of my research has focused on the college admissions process and the transition to a college environment. I enjoy mentoring students through this daunting experience, coaching them through applications and writing their essays.
I also help with study skills. As a therapist, I have experience working with individuals with learning difficulties and mental health challenges such as ASD, ADHD, Anxiety, and more. My clinical knowledge allows me to engage with all types of students and I recognize learning can be emotional. I am patient, funny, and personable. Building self-esteem and a sense of competency is essential for student performance and comfort in educational settings. Teaching the material is just as important to me as fostering personal growth." less...
