"Hello, I'm Kathleen. From a young age, while frequently helping my sister, who struggled with dyslexia, to learn and succeed in school, I discovered my passion for tutoring. In high school, I was a classroom assistant for several years, often helping out those students who were struggling. I followed that up by obtaining my Bachelor's in Elementary Education where I gained experience in tutoring students with specific learning needs. These opportunities led to me recognizing my preference for focusing on teaching individuals or smaller groups. I feel I am most effective with one-on-one attention which enables me to more easily identify needs and adapt my approach and subject matter.

I have taught in various settings from classroom ESL instruction with anywhere from 5-15 students to private tutoring in my home. I have taught students of all ages from those in preschool to those in retirement and have used a set curriculum as well as created my own lessons. I recognize that students are unique individuals and have specific ways of receiving and processing information. Therefore, I enjoy identifying the ways a student learns best and adapting my teaching to fit. In addition, I am able to identify blocks to learning that frequently result in a lack of confidence.

I then work to create opportunities for positive, confidence-building experiences and provide strategies to help students overcome obstacles to learning. I have had encouraging results with my energetic, interactive, encouraging approach.

My degree in elementary education as well as numerous opportunities throughout the years to tutor children in math and reading as well as teaching my own four children to read and tutoring them in various subjects from elementary school through university has made me an ideal tutor for children. I love children of all ages and thrive on equipping them with the skills they need to become excited about learning and succeed in school!
