"Hi, my name is Daniel. I've been teaching ESL for twelve years at the high school level and, currently, I'm also teaching Transitional English. I graduated from Rutgers University as an English major with a minor in Linguistics. Throughout my years as a teacher, I have worked in the after-school tutoring programs, taught HSPA prep for the statewide assessment and administered Compass Learning to provide alternative coursework for students without enough credits for graduation. In addition to my work experience, I attained an Orton-Gillingham Teacher Certificate through my graduate coursework overseen by Fairleigh Dickinson University. During this program, I developed and taught individualized lessons for students in elementary, middle, and high school. It was this program that fostered my love of tutoring. I was able to see the enormous growth that individualized instruction can foster and I was able to see the impact that that growth had on my students in so many ways beyond the academic. I strive for this same achievement from each of my students.
My ESL certification came by default. I was interested in language and ESL offered a lot of exposure to it. Among the 11 students in one of my classes, they speak 14 different languages! As I broaden my own language skills I am constantly reminded of the difficulties of learning a new language. As a result, I always work toward providing the easiest explanation and the material that will give the biggest bang for the buck.
I encourage you to contact me with any questions, to arrange a meeting, or to schedule a lesson. I want to be sure to provide you with useful and directed instruction so please be as specific as you can with your expectations. Thank you and good luck in meeting your educational needs." less...
