"Over the past 23 years of being a certified teacher, I have taught 4th, 5th, 2nd and ESL. During these assignments, I have been responsible for the literacy, math, writing, and English development of hundreds of students. I have a BSE in Elementary Education, M.Ed. in Educational technology and Ed.S in Educaitonal Leadership. I also have my endorsement for English Language instruction in grades K-12. I am a National Board Certified teacher in Literacy for Early/Middle School. This process was a grueling process that honed in on my abilities to teach all students how to be efficient and effective readers.
I have been trained in many research based literacy programs. I have been trained in Bartons Reading and Spelling program. Bartons reading program is influenced by the Orton Gillingham methodology. Orton Gillinham is a structured language approach that is different in both what is taught and how it is taught and is targeted towards students that display signs of Dyslexia. The system is a multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential program designed for intense intervention. I have also been trained in Science of Reading. Science of Reading focusses on 5 main areas: Phoenemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension. It is a collection of research from multiple fields of study using methods that confirm and disconfirm theories on how children best learn to read. Other certification I have is in the ELD program from EL Achieve. ELD training is rooted in multiple areas of educational theory, research, and practice, including effective literacy and content instruction, second language pedagogy and policy, and the science of implementation. Other programs I have years of experience with are Lexia, Amplify Reading, I-Ready Math, Right Flite Reading interventions and countless others. My years of experience have been my best teacher and I would love to share that exertise." less...
