"I've been teaching children to read and improve their writing for over 20 years, starting as a volunteer in my son's kindergarten class. I enjoyed helping children so much in this way that I went on to study literacy and language acquisition for my Master's work.
Now I tutor reading, writing, and language arts after retiring from teaching in a small, private school. I also tutor home-schooled children and students who need more practice than the standard school day provides. I have collected many teacher's tricks and educational aids in order to have learning materials suitable for all learning styles.
I enjoy helping teens improve their writing as well as organizational skills and study habits. Students get a chance to improve their self-esteem when they see what they are capable of when they get organized. We can tackle Senior projects, College entrance essays, job applications, and resumes.
For ESL/ESOL experience, I've worked as a ESL teacher in multi-level groups. I've also tutored individuals who were newly acclimating to the USA and others who wanted to improve their English. I have learned so much from my students.
In order to maintain my understanding of what it is like to study a new language as an adult, I have taken study trips to Mexico, Spain, and Argentina. I have acquired a little Spanish from these trips but, most of all, I have learned to respect students for their strengths, skills, and independence.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you and your family." less...
