"Hello. I am a private tutor for K - 12, college and adult students. My BA is in English/Literature & Communications. My MS is in publishing. My expertise is in showing students how to improve their writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary. Study skills, time management and organizational skills are other areas of my expertise, as well as tutoring for the common essay and supplemental questions for the college application. I offer a full range of services for all grades, and I am a homework helper as well. Written expression is the most important skill to develop, because it is used to write reports and research papers in all academic subjects, as well as for test essay responses. I also tutor in researching, taking notes, study skills, organizational skills, time management, and assignment planning - all part of the package that promotes academic success. Tutors help students who want to achieve higher grades. I use fun methods to help the younger students become involved and motivated. To maximize their potential, I adapt my methods to appeal to the specific age of the student, his/her temperament, and learning style.

For the K - 1 student, I offer a program to supplement schoolwork, specifically how to write the alphabet and numbers, learn phonics, recall and write sight words, reading comprehension and sentence writing. I offer students in grades 1 - 3 support in reading comprehension, speech and writing, continued phonics, plus vocabulary, parts of speech, punctuation, spelling rules and proofreading skills. Because the student-teacher ratio in public school is often 25:1, students cannot receive the individual instruction they require when learning how to form the letters with the correct pencil grip. These skills are essential for developing legible handwriting. Many young learners need more time and repetition than they can receive during school to master these skills.
