My name is Shane, and I graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. I've had two letters to the editor published in the Boston Globe and boston.com. I've helped students gain acceptance to Cornell, UC Berkeley, UT Austin, the University of Virginia, and Northeastern among many others. As an undergrad I became a certified writing tutor through my university's writing program. Since then I have tutored thousands of students online and in-person. My approach to tutoring varies from student to student. First, I identify the student's needs, then we collaborate to develop a goal(s). I work to ensure the student is engaged in the learning process throughout the session. I ask guiding questions, frequently ask for the student's input, and utilize multiple resources to reinforce understanding.
