"As a tutor, I hope to create many safe, fun, and cooperative learning experiences for elementary, middle, high school, and college students. These experiences will make sure that the students’ skills match the challenges in the lessons. A special talent of mine is that I know how to explain and demonstrate dance routines very well, including the Cha Cha Slide. Also, I have student taught and substitute taught many physical education lessons to students in grades ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade, including how to perform a forearm and overhead pass used in volleyball. In each of these lessons, I realized that every tutor should know and be able to perform every skill they tutor. Sometimes, however, I have to modify the skill to meet the student’s needs.
In addition to my physical education background, I have a strong background in math. To explain this better, I have an excellent understanding of math and mathematical operations. My major used to be mathematics, but it later became my minor. My instruction in mathematics has included tutoring middle, high school, and college students in math both, inside and outside of school. Along with that, I have taught middle and high school students many mathematical lessons when I completed a project called Senior Project during my last year in high school and
when I was substitute teaching after college. For instance, I taught students how to factor out the
greatest common factor. Not only that, but also, I taught students different ways of how to simplify and factorize expanded expressions, how to construct linear and non-linear functions in relation to two different quantities (domain and range), and how to compare the models to the actual table and graph on a TI-84 Plus graphing calculator. These lessons made me realize that
tutors should be able to show multiple techniques that can be used to approach one problem and solve it." less...
