"As a tutor, my goal is two-fold: (1) To fill-in missing concepts in students' knowledge of a subject, and (2) To teach students subject-specific skills and to increase confidence & independence.
My methodology will ensure that students see the LOGIC of any subject, are able to make CONNECTIONS between concepts, and can work through problems INDEPENDENTLY. People often think that students are either "good" or "bad" at science/math - but that is not true. Students who are "good" at a subject simply developed skills to make logical connections between concepts. In lessons, I help my students develop these skills.
My methodology includes:
1. Identifying what area the student struggles with (misconceptions, making connections, learning style, etc.)
2. Presenting information in the learning style of the student
3. Supplementing explanations with various examples increasing in difficulty, with immediate feedback
4. Connecting the concepts learned in the lesson with previous material and future concepts.
My Background:
I graduated with a BA in Chemistry (summa cum laude), I have extensive math experience (calculus, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, statistics), and have applied these concepts to advanced chemistry, biology, and physics courses. Currently I am pursuing an MD at Emory University, which requires a strong aptitude for grasping scientific concepts quickly.
Work Experience:
I have been teaching and tutoring science and math to students for 12+ years. My experience includes teaching ages from elementary school to college students. I also was a teaching assistant to professors for many undergraduate science courses. Over the past decade I developed tools and curricula for teaching students with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, and other learning disabilities.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding my methodology. I will likely suggest that we hop on a (free) consultation call to chat about your child's needs." less...
