"My name is Vanessa E. and I am excited to share my rich background as a teacher and tutor. My teaching has spanned from the classroom teaching academics to the stage teaching theater. Over the past 20+ years I have shared my talents with children in elementary, middle and high school. My expertise is in reading, writing and math problem solving, as well as an intense background working with children with learning, language and emotional disabilities. My profound method in teaching has led me to become a teacher trainer, helping other teachers design lesson plans that support ALL student learners.
Because of my dual background in education and theater, I infuse my creative artistry into my lessons, making them highly engaging and thus, increasing a student's understanding of difficult material. I enjoy working 1:1 with students because it allows me the opportunity to assess lessons given to students--what is working and how it worked. This informs my future lessons, which is the optimal experience as a teacher.
I have an MEd from Herbert H. Lehman College and a BS in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana. I have taught in all school settings, including public, private, parochial and independent schools, and I specialize in teaching exceptional learning strategies to support ALL children, from those with language based learning disabilities to twice exceptional gifted children.
I use my background as a special educator to teach unique yet challenging strategies to enhance a child's phonics, reading comprehension, as well as writing skills. Through differentiated instruction, I create lessons that address the academic struggles each student possesses, then incorporate multiple modes for practice.
I am a permanently licensed special educator with 20+ years of experience teaching children with learning disabilities, speech and language delays, emotional disabilities and other health impairments. I use researched-based informal and formal assessments and create lessons using differentiated instruction mod" less...
