"I am a very organized person that thoroughly enjoys helping others to organize their routines and habits. I believe that this process takes time to develop by teaching small steps towards independence. I have been teaching for 17 years as a Special Education Teacher. I have my bachelors and masters both in Special Education. I teach and tutor students that have learning disabilities, ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, autism, and dyslexia to name a few. I also have a personal connection as I have a son with ADHD and Executive functioning disorder. This connection is important because I feel I can make a connection with the parents of my students.
I have been teaching math in the elementary setting for 17 years. I have taught and tutored in math using many techniques. I believe it is important to use manipulatives and varying techniques to reach all students. I think it is essential to put things into terms you can understand.
When teaching reading fundamentals, I use the Orton Gillingham approach. Each word is comprised up of word parts. l believe by understanding the word parts, students can then decipher the multisyllabic words. Breaking things down also is helpful when reading a text and trying to comprehend it.
I have been working with special needs students for 17 years and also have two son's with learning disabilities. I believe it is important to find the source of my students difficulties and work from there. There are many resources available, but finding the right one that fits the challenges of my students is key.
Not only can I help you with the subject you are struggling in, I can also give you the tools to be successful throughout your academic career." less...
