"Hello, my name is Kelly! I am a former educator and behavioral therapist with 6 years experience, starting in middle school then moving to elementary (K-5) and spending most of my career there, having worked with both neurotypical students in general education classrooms as well as neurodivergent self contained and inclusion classrooms. I have expertise with children who have a wide range of academic challenges. I’m also experienced with at-risk students as well students who need behavioral intervention in a classroom setting. I have run pre-k socialization groups and kindergarten readiness classroom groups, designed to prepare for reading readiness and math skills, as well as teach appropriate behavior in a classroom setting. I have led students in both small groups and entire classroom instruction in grades K-5. Small group subjects covered were reading comprehension and reading level advancement, followed by reading level placement tests, as well as vocabulary, math and science, and art skills groups. I also taught one-on-one lessons for students struggling with handwriting. As far as whole class instruction, I have taught language arts, math, and science lessons. I have extensive experience in adapting and implementing a typical general education curriculum to fit ASD students being mainstreamed into general education classes. I have also tutored outside the classroom, covering spelling, vocabulary, handwriting, elementary math and science. I also have experience tutoring ESL students in reading, vocabulary and grammar.
In addition to teaching lessons in both large and small groups and tutoring outside of the classroom, I have extensive knowledge in completing student assessments and evaluations. I have completed the Registered Behavioral Therapist program through Relias Learning, and am currently planning for an internship to finish my Social Work program through Washtenaw Community College, with plans to transfer next year and finish my Bachelor of Social Work at Eastern Michigan University." less...
