"Hi! I am a current second grade teacher who just completed her 12th year in the classroom. I have taught second grade for the past seven years. Prior to that, I taught kindergarten, first, and third grades, as well as a year of special education. My experience has allowed me to teach an extremely diverse population of students. I am presently licensed in the state of Indiana, where I teach, in grades kindergarten through sixth. In addition, I am licensed in mild special education and have a reading endorsement.
As a teacher, my number one priority is first getting to know the child. What are his or her needs? What does he or she excel at? I seek to truly teach each student as an individual; playing off of those strengths and weaknesses to help each child realize his or her full potential. I also strongly value the parent-teacher relationship, and I will establish with you and the child clear goals for our sessions, as well as facilitate open lines of communication regarding your child's progress.
As a current teacher, I am fully immersed in current best practices and curriculum in the area of math. My school corporation has adopted an inquiry-based math program, and I have been involved in ongoing professional development relating to the teaching of math for the past seven years.
In addition to my reading endorsement, I am required to teach 90 minutes of reading daily in my classroom. This has given me ample opportunity to construct lessons that both engage students and improve upon their reading. Also, I have been to numerous professional development workshops and trainings over the past nine years, all of which have helped shaped my strategies to teaching young readers.
