"The child of two journalists, Andrew grew up between the Upper West Side of Manhattan and the suburbs of Beijing. After graduating from the elite Stuyvesant High School in New York he attended the University of Chicago and received a B.A. in Philosophy with honors. During college, he interned, among other places, at the Obama White House, writing and editing blog posts, veto threats, and other messaging. After several years of work in tech consulting, he pursued an MFA in Creative Writing at the New School on a Provost's Scholarship. His short stories and essays have since been published by the nation’s leading magazines. He has also worked as a freelance editor and ghost writer for various book projects.
Andrew is an expert in application essay writing and application strategy. He has overseen the entire college application process for nearly one hundred high school students, with acceptances at Princeton, Yale, Cornell, the University of Chicago, Stanford, Cambridge, and many wonderful liberal arts colleges, art schools, and state universities. He has also helped students of all ages with a variety of other applications, including applications to law school, dental school, PhDs, internships, fellowships, summer programs, jobs, and more.
Aside from a wealth of experience in the strategic elements of applications, he also brings an evidence-based approach to essay writing. He shows students concrete examples of great applications and works with them through an extended brainstorming, writing, and revision process. He has also tutored students in refining their prose for other purposes, whether academic or creative, with similar stellar results. He particularly enjoys introducing young people to the joys of writing." less...
