"I graduated summa cum laude (3.97 GPA) from Rutgers with a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics and a minor in Political Science. I always enjoyed helping out classmates with their studies, but I got my first official tutoring job teaching small classroom review sessions of Organic Chemistry my sophomore year of college. After graduating I worked as a science teacher's aide at a grade 6-12 school in Malibu, CA for four years. As part of my job I got to work directly with students to review material across all science content areas. During this time I also worked after school with high school and college students, gaining hundreds of hours of one-on-one experience tutoring mainly Biology, Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I returned back east to be near family in Massachusetts where I taught high school Chemistry, Biology, and Bioengineering for 5 years.
In my tutoring I strive to not just explain the immediate concepts troubling students, but focus on the strategies and tools to help them be more confident and self-sufficient moving forward in their studies. I model how I think about and approach solving problems, and encourage students to explore what specific methods work best for them. I focus on getting students to verbalize their thought process when problem-solving to best assess their strengths and weaknesses. It is crucial to me that students develop the confidence and skills to troubleshoot difficult problems on their own, as they obviously can’t rely on me to break down every problem for them.
I welcome feedback and suggestions to best match the student’s learning style and needs. I am easy to reach, and quick to respond. Looking forward to hearing from you and scheduling a lesson!" less...
