"Howdy I’m Tori! I graduated cum laude from Lamar University with my Bachelor's in ASL, and a minor in Criminal Justice. While in college, I became immensely immersed in the ASL program with my signing skills soaring in a short time! All of my professors were Deaf or Hard of Hearing, so I had the opportunity to learn from this within the community which made my signing more proficient. Everyone in the program were patient and willing to go over material when I found myself doubting my skills or simply needed the extra help. I include this mindset when I am tutoring others in ASL. Learning a new language can be tough but with lots of practice and patience, my students are able to feel confident after their lessons. I like to use “hands-up” experience while tutoring to help students get used to signing and often use pictures, videos, and white boards to start. Eventually the goal is have lessons where we are “voice off” and sign only to strengthen receptor and productions skills.
I have 3 years of tutoring experience as I was a tutor at Lamar University from sophomore through senior year in our ASL Lab. I worked with students from beginner classes of ASL 1 all the way to those in ASL 6 and also interpreting students. Additionally, I’ve also tutored for English, Reading, and Criminal Justice courses.
Any additional resources from the students are welcome as I like to think of this as a collaboration and being able to adapt to each student’s needs. I am easy to reach and have fast responses. Feel free to contact me for any additional questions or to schedule a lesson. Hope to see you soon!" less...
