"As a teacher, I delight in the challenge of simplifying a complicated topic. Many topics in math and science are far from simple; however, there is often a way to explain them in a less complicated way and then layer the rigor over time. Discovering how to do this and helping my students along a journey of competence in math and science is what led me to my life-long dream of teaching. I am not unusually gifted in math or science, but I love to learn and I have an intense interest in discovery. My goal with students is to spark their desire and motivation for learning and develop a drive to continue educating themselves throughout their life.
In addition to graduating from a traditional university, I have earned two degrees online, so I know how to succeed in an online environment. My first online degree was a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (B.S.Ed) with emphasis in math. Shortly thereafter, I earned a Master of Science: Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in technology (M.S.Ed). During the time I was earning these degrees, I worked full time and cared for increasing family obligations. I understand the commitment needed to be a successful online student. I am also aware of the advantages and the limitations that an online education affords. These experiences make me uniquely qualified to be a successful online tutor.
I am a Jr High/High School teacher at a small public school located in rural New Mexico. If needed, I can arrange to tutor in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, or anyplace in between. Due to the distance involved, I prefer to tutor online at a time that is convenient for my students. I have been been tutoring students online from across the country for about three years now.
