I am naturally a tolerant and flexible person and enjoying meeting people from all walks of life. I also enjoy sharing knowledge and I make my teaching lessons as stimulating and enjoyable as possible.
I think humor is a wonderful aid in teaching, and I use it to lower the stress level whenever possible.
Before teaching overseas, I taught elementary school English as a Second Language grades 2-5 for 11 years at David Cox Elementary School in Charlotte North Carolina.
One of my most important duties was to prepare my students for the North Carolina End-of-Grade tests for grades 2-5. I also taught elementary math. I had a great deal of success with my elementary students passing their state exams.
I teach the language of math before practicing the calculations. I make sure my students know their multiplication tables before moving on to division, fractions, decimals and percents. I have students use a marker board aid them while using mathematical formulas to calculate answers. I make sure my students understand the meaning of all mathematical symbols.
I have a passion for teaching English literature in the form of short stories, plays and short novels. I use my students background information to help them relate to what they are reading. I use graphic organizers and other visuals to help with student understanding. I have students keep a vocabulary notebook which provides opportunities look up the meaning of words, use them in a sentence, and draw a picture of the word when appropriate.
Besides the fact that I am certified to teach both English as a Second Language and mainstream elementary grades 1-6,
I have vast experience teaching elementary math and English as well. My most important qualities as a teacher are that I am both patient and flexible. I use everything at my disposal to make difficult reading or language material, such as reading" less...
