"My name is Jose. I have been teaching Mathematics for 40 years. I believe in individualizing tutoring to align with the student’s learning style. I usually select the starting point for our first session with the student providing specific areas of concern with their math course. To explain the material in a way that captures the student’s understanding, followed by you the student applying the modeling to solve the problem. Here is where the coaching can be helpful to smooth out any problems as the you goes through the problem solving process. Once you start to develop confidence in working on the problems in an error free manner, we continue to the next progression or to higher levels of difficulty depending on what the course requires from you.

I have tutored students in subjects ranging from Algebra and Statistics through Calculus 3. Teaching is my calling, and I find great satisfaction and joy in seeing the students understand mathematics and improve their confidence in working through math problems.

Professionally, I served as a tour of duty in the United State Marine Corps. After my four year hitch, I attended college at the State University of New York at Albany and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Mathematics, a Master degree from Columbia University Teachers College in Mathematics Education, and a Doctorate from Walden University in Mathematics Education. I have served as a high school mathematics teacher, a high school principal, a college mathematics professor, a college grants director, and a tutor.
