"I'm Ashkan! I graduated from UT-Austin with a BS in Biomedical Engineering with a 3.4 GPA. After graduation, I worked as a patent examiner at the USPTO. I am currently enrolled in a master's degree program at SDSU in biomedical informatics. I am teaching as a teaching assistant in a molecular biology lab where I teach undergraduate students the principles of gel electrophoresis, PCR and DNA sequencing techniques.
From 2011 to 2019, I worked at the Princeton Review as a MCAT and SAT Instructor. I became certified in MCAT Biology and MCAT General Chemistry so I taught MCAT Biology and MCAT General Chemistry. The process of distilling complex chemistry and biology concepts into a simple and enjoyable format will ensure that students can capture the most important fundamentals of a concept and apply it on a test. My decade of experience at the Princeton Review involved the use of the Socratic method in my teaching methodology by asking students pertinent questions in order to stimulate their thinking and make sure they understand the topic. My teaching methodology also introduces a real-world example of a topic and then teaching the fundamentals of general chemistry or biology using the real-world topic. For example, in the movie Erin Brockovich, she found that hexavalent chromium was used in the water supply which resulted in elevated levels of cancers in the population that the water was exposed to. Then, if it was a general chemistry class, I would teach oxidation state and how it can vary (hexavalent chromium, etc). If it was a biology class, I would teach the basics of cancer biology (changes in DNA, cells dividing uncontrollably, etc).
I have 9 years of experience of teaching MCAT Chemistry, 5 years of experience of teaching MCAT Biology to college aged pre-med students and 7 years of experience of teaching SAT/ACT to high school students. If you are a student or the parent of a student, contact me with any questions you have or if you would like to schedule a lesson." less...
